Other sites tested:

1) Flanders Moss is still being analysed by Tim Mighall. He has reached 2 m and the diagrams look good but some issues with the 14C dates. Two more dates have just been submitted to Beta analytic.

2) Tim was also going to analyse Mull as well. This site was originally sampled as part of a different project that Tim was working on before the current Leverhulme. Three different locations have preliminary radiocarbon ages suggesting a 1st millennium AD sequence. We are now in the final year of the Leverhulme project so these sites are unlikely to be completed during this current project.

​3) Red Moss of Netherly and 4) Red Moss of Blairdaff: Sediments were extracted by myself and volunteers and preliminary radiocarbon analysis conducted but unfortunately the early Medieval period is missing Instead the sequences likely span the Younger Dryas - early Holocene sequence - not for current project but donated to a PhD project.

5) Dundurn Hillfort. Early medieval period missing, donaed to a PhD project.

6) Inchtuthill - Sediments too young - Need to try a new location but no time left in this project.

7) Burghead 14C dates pending but samples have been taken directly from the early medieval archaeological contexts. I am currently working on this. Preservation so far is not good, but doable..  pollen grains are identifiable albeit in various states of preservation/degradation including cereal types and plenty of herbivore coprophilous indicators (slides absolutely full of coprophilous fungal spores) so I will persist with this one.
